Following resignation of the previous Dutch Cabinet, the NUWWC decided to formulate a policy advice to the Informateur, who is leading explorative discussions with leaders of political parties about the next Cabinet’s composition. Many other organizations have done this as well. The committee’s advice focuses on the role of water knowledge in international water policy of the Netherlands. It is based on the committee’s experiences working with UNESCO and WMO. The five recommendations stimulate increased efforts in the area of water education, innovation, transformative processes and strategic science-policy interaction.
It is the first time that the committee issues such an advice. Committee members NCEA and Deltares have taken the lead in drafting the letter. It has been signed by scientific committee co-chair Michelle van Vliet to emphasize the knowledge-driven perspective of the letter, but the entire committee supports its recommendations.
