27th Ordinary session of the IHP Intergovernmental Council
The 27th Ordinary session of the IHP Intergovernmental Council will take place from 1 till 5 June at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. The agenda will include updates on various IHP implementation activities, discussions about proposed resolutions, and various thematic side events aligned with the 5 Priority Areas in the IHP-IX Strategic Plan.
Meeting of IHP Region 1 (Northwest Europe and Northern America)
Hosted by Türkiye, the next IHP Region 1 meeting will take place on 19 and 20 May. Representatives from Region 1 countries will discuss topics of shared interest and look ahead towards the 27th Council meeting.
National meeting of the Netherlands UNESCO WMO Water Committee
The next national NUWWC meeting will be hosted at Deltares, location Delft, to enable a guided tour through their research and lab facilities. Before the visit, we will discuss on-going developments regarding UNESCO IHP (including proposed decisions during the IHP Council) and WMO, and define the outlines of a new committee strategy for the period 2026 – 2029.
RA VI Hydrological Advisers Forum
The annual meeting of the WMO Regional Association VI (Europe) will bring together all national hydrological advisors active in the region. It will discuss on-going activities and agreed action points, with reference to the RA VI 19th session including the Hydrology Assembly held in 2024.
Special meeting of the Netherlands UNESCO WMO Water Committee, the Netherlands Permanent Delegation to UNESCO, and the IHP Secretariat
This meeting serves to discuss how the Netherlands collectively, but also NUWWC individually, can have an impactful term as new Member of the IHP Council. The Permanent Delegation of the Netherlands to UNESCO, and representatives from the IHP Secretariat, will join and provide advice, share best practices, and provide recommendations.
7th Extraordinary Session of the IHP council
The 7th Extraordinary Session of the IHP Council will take place to discuss, among other items, the appointment of new Council Members (term 2026-2029) and the three Sub Committees (Communications and Outreach, Finance, and Resolutions Drafting Committees).
Webinar: The role of water education and capacity development in a changing world
An Anniversary Webinar Series is being held by UNESCO IHP, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the programme and 60 years of water sciences at UNESCO. The series, titled “Frontiers of Global Water Science,” features distinguished experts from the UNESCO Water Family, discussing critical water challenges and innovations.

Extraordinary Session of the World Meteorological Congress (Cg-Ext 2025)
The Extraordinary session of the World Meteorological Congress (Cg-Ext(2025)) takes place from 20 to 23 October 2025 at WMO Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. It will be preceded by a virtual extraordinary session of the Financial Advisory Committee (FINAC-Ext(2025)) on 14 October 2025, and followed by the extraordinary session of the Executive Council (EC-Ext(2025)) on 24 October 2025, also at WMO Headquarters. On the morning of 20 October, as part of Congress, a High-Level Event on the Early Warnings for All (EW4All) Initiative takes place at the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Workshop: developing a Water Education Indicator
IHP Anniversary: 50 years of IHP and 60 years of water sciences at UNESCO
2025 marks the concurrent commemoration of the IHP’s 50th anniversary and UNESCO’s 60-year commitment to water sciences. The celebration will be launched with an event on 11 June 2025, at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, and will be followed by technical symposia and institutional dialogues scheduled for 12-13 June. This event will bring together members of the global water science community to look back on 50 years of progress and shape new strategies to tackle today’s and tomorrow’s water-related challenges.
64th IHP Bureau meeting
The 64th IHP Bureau meeting takes place on 28-29 April at UNESCO. The Bureau discusses amongst several other items, the implementation progress of the Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme and preparations for the Anniversary events.
