The first meeting of the Netherlands UNESCO WMO Water Committee of 2026 was hosted at Deltares, Delft, on 22 April. The meeting brought together 18 representatives of the scientific, policy and implementation communities working on international hydrology. The agenda included the following points:
- Presentations on behalf of the National Hydrological Advisor on highlights of the WMO Regional Association VI developments (April 2026). We discussed how to improve data sharing procedures from the Netherlands to WMO, and preparations for the next WMO State of Global Water Resources report.
- Updates on UNESCO IHP: a preview of the agenda of the upcoming 27th IHP Council (1-5 June), including decisions on the proposed UNESCO Water Sciences Report, overview of various Side Events in line with the IHP-IX Priority Areas, and a Draft Resolution to be submitted on behalf of the Netherlands to advance on-going work on a Water Education Indicator.
- Working session to collect input for the NUWWC multi-annual Strategy Document (2026 – 2029).
- A very informative tour at Deltares’ research facilities, including the ‘Deltagoot’ and indoor testing facilities.
