During the 27th Council Session of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP), Youth4Water was approved as one of its Flagship Initiatives.
Building on the outcomes of the 1st UNESCO Water Youth Dialogue in 2025, Youth4Water will empower young people as key actors in shaping inclusive, resilient and sustainable water governance at local, national, regional and global levels.
The Council approved a resolution that was submitted by the Kingdom of the Netherlands, prepared in close partnership with the United Arab Emirates and Senegal. Khalifa University as implementing partner and IHE Delft as key partner were present during the discussions.
With its approval, Youth4Water becomes a globally unique mechanism within the UN system to expand access to water education, create new opportunities for young professionals, and ensure that youth voices help shape the future of water governance worldwide.
